BT Group plc - Better World Campaign

Merrill Lynch Education Award supported by the Department for Children, Schools and Families

As a leading provider of communications services, BT Group Plc has developed The BT Better World Campaign to ensure that young people improve the way they communicate.

Processes

BT’s research has shown that more and more young people are starting their education without the fundamental skills of good speaking and listening. And, when children start out lacking these skills, it can follow them throughout their development into their careers and later life.  The results also showed that fewer than 50 per cent of young people felt that adults were listening to them and acting on what they had said.

The Better World Campaign has three main objectives to promote more effective communication and collaboration, especially among young people, their parents and teachers. The first objective is to help children most in need to be heard and helped by working with organisations such as Childline, making it possible for more children than ever to speak to a trained telephone counsellor.

The second objective is to develop young people’s communication skills  The campaign provides free resources for teachers, pupils and families. It also organises school visits and events.

The third objective is to create social change by giving young people a voice.  BT provides campaigning tools, access to influential adults, and public platforms that empower young people to have their voices heard.
