Cadbury’s cocoa bean processing plant at Chirk on the Welsh border has a focussed community programme that demonstrates its responsibility to local rural neighbours, stakeholders and employees.
Impact
- Six different organizations nominated by employees at Chirk received £800 each to support their activities.
- Continued support for a number of youth sport organizations enabled over 200 young people to take part in activities within the local community.
- Cash focused support linked with employee volunteering included provision of site car parks during home games for the local football team, funding for the Chirk Youth Football and Cricket teams and the Bethan Dance Academy.
- Organisations benefitting from employee fundraising and the ‘Cadbury Cash Match’ scheme included the Welsh Air Ambulance and Nightingale Home Hospice.
- 39% of colleagues at Chirk volunteered their time in 2009/10 compared to the company average of 29%.
- Cadbury Chirk was highlighted around the UK Cadbury business for its success within the community. This resulted in enhanced reputation and solid foundations for potential future capital investment and other resources for the site.
