May Gurney Integrated Services PLC is an infrastructure services company committed to helping its clients in the public and regulated sectors deliver sustainable improvements to front-line services across the UK making sure that the road, utility, rail and waterways networks and public buildings are well maintained and that household waste is collected and recycled.

They are leading the way with regard to sustainability and have made a commitment to cutting carbon emissions by 50% by the end of 2012 and being carbon neutral by 2014.

They have introduced ‘SLIM’ (speed, litres, idling and miles), an ECO driver-training programme focusing on reducing fuel consumption, and better journey planning to cut mileage.  The majority of their commercial vehicles are fitted with trackers to monitor SLIM activity and target areas for improvement.

May Gurney now prepare CO2 footprinting for all projects worth over £50,000.

Impacts

• A 13.3% reduction in carbon emissions in the past 12 months

• One of the first in their industry to have their carbon footprint independently verified by CEMARS

• 5,000 employees completed an eco-driver training programme
