I never thought I could be like normal people and have a real job that I love.  My ambition is to have my own kitchen one day.

Norse Commercial Services have been involved in helping remove barriers to work for the long term unemployed for a number of years; initially working with vulnerable people and the probation service.

An important development in their placement job search and support programmes was the introduction of a one stop contact point within the organisation.  This ensures that learning is shared between the various projects.


Clients needs differ significantly and this helps to meet the objectives of each group. For example  those who have been long term unemployed often need more support in the initial weeks in order to build self esteem and confidence.

Impact

  • In the last 12 months permanent employment has been found for 25 participants all of whom had been unable to obtain employment for a number of years
  • Lower levels of sickness absence and lower turn over of employees has benefited the business
