Eversheds LLP and Northside Music Productions

All the people involved at Eversheds in the Project have expressed great enjoyment being part of the adventure.  While it gave us valuable experience in the area, it also reinforced Eversheds' commitment to the communities in which the organisation lives and works.

David PalmerSolicitor, Eversheds

Northside Music Productions applied for help to draw up a legal agreement through the ProHelp programme and law firm, Eversheds LLP accepted the application.

Process

Eversheds is one of the largest full service law firms in the world with six main practice areas: commercial, corporate, human resources, legal systems, litigation and dispute management, real estate.

Northside Music Productions are an ethical, artist centred music business, which works to recognise, develop and promote the talent of up and coming artists in order to further their careers in the music industry.

Northside Music Productions required an agreement to be signed by the artist and the production house before commencing work with an artist and they wanted the company to be able to run on a professional basis that would allow them to reinvest in future talent.

Eversheds completed the original instruction within two months and the Northside Productions was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee.

With Northside Productions as a new client, Eversheds was asked to put together a recording contract that would be relatively musician-friendly specifically to allow the artist to defer the costs of recording their album to a point at which they could afford to repay the organisation.  In particular, should the musician’s career never took off, they would not be required to repay the costs of production.

Business outcomes

The Eversheds team have expressed great enjoyment being part of the adventure.  This project has given the team valuable experience.

Following feedback from Northside Productions, Eversheds believe this project to be a great success and look forward to working with Northside Music Productions in the future.

“ProHelp helped Northside Music Productions access professional advice and support which has proven invaluable to the development and running of the organisation. Without ProHelp, Northside could never have achieved what it has done over the previous year” Liz Leach, Company Secretary, Northside Music Promotions

Impact

  • The company was duly incorporated and within a tight timescale.
  • Improvements in fundng sources.
  • The organisation may become self funding in the near future partly through the mechanics of the funding received to date and the model agreement being used with artists.
