GE Healthcare’s Maynard Centre in Cardiff has developed over many years educational initiatives which not only donate to local primary schools financially, but also lend scientific equipment to primary schools. Most recently, the company opened the Education Zone in 2006.

Processes

The Education Zone is a state-of-the-art purpose built laboratory and classroom allowing local primary schools in South Wales to visit and partake in fun scientific experiments, in line with the school curriculum. Since opening in 2006 over 3000 visitors have passed through its doors.
The benefits the Education Zone has brought in a short period of time are twofold. For GE Healthcare, it has provided increased opportunity for positive engagement in the local community in which The Maynard Centre is located. For the local community, it has provided a service which local primary schools appreciate.

Impact

98% of their students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the science experiment offered.

99%of the teachers gave the programme top marks when it came to rating how useful they found the activity for their pupils.
