Health and Safety is also key to their employees well being and have established a yellow warning card hazard spotting process. Individuals are strongly encouraged to formally report hazards and risks through the management hierarchy.

Serco are a Global FTSE 100 facilities services provider and are contracted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust.  Their workforce of 630 people at NNUH includes catering, domestic, portering, wastes management and estates technical.

Serco at NNUH works within a major health care environment, this especially requires that they promote, encourage and pursue very tangible health and wellbeing issues for staff as well as customers.

They run a vibrant nutrition action group to encourage healthy eating and provide a 22 hours a day staff catering service to the employees offering a huge range healthy food options.

Serco have undertaken a tree clearing project to develop a “green walk way” for staff and a refurbished bicycles project run in partnership with Wayland prison means that bikes are sold to staff enabling them to leave the car at home or take up social cycling and fitness.

They operate a no smoking site and offer encouragement to staff to stop smoking.

 

Impacts


• In 2004, 124 personal accidents were reported, this has reduced to 61 in the last year

• Our staff sickness levels have reduced year on year we believe this is integral with good positive management, our other best practice and a proactive use of occupational health facility.

• In the region of 100 bikes have been sold to employees benefiting the Wayland Prison project and the hospital charities with the proceeds from the sales.
