Health, Work and Well Being Award

East of England - Highly Commended: Ipswich Building Society

I have noticed that staff are moving around more and talking rather than e-mailing or picking up the phone. This is a great result, not only for Fit for Work but also for improving relations within the office.

ManagerIpswich Building Society

Ipswich Building Society employs just under 100 staff who work at its headquarters and nine branches.  The Society’s culture promotes the health and well being of employees and sees this as integral to day to day business.

The Society has a flexible working policy offering staff choices to suit individual needs.  Both the mental and physical welfare of all staff are a priority and they are made aware of stress related issues and offered support where appropriate.

The Society’s head office has a covered cycle store, shower room and an office has been converted into a dedicated ‘Fit for Work’ room which includes a Wii with fitness and sports consoles, DVD fitness sessions and relaxation.

A casual lunchtime walking group has been established to achieve the recommended 10,000 steps a day with the Society provided pedometers.

The Society regularly support, promote and take part in national events such as “Cycle to Work Day” and “Walk to Work Week”, plus local charity events that promote a healthy lifestyle such as the Midnight Walk and Orwell Walk.
