InterfaceFLOR is part of USA-based Interface Inc., a worldwide leader in the production of environmentally-responsible modular floor coverings and other textiles.  

Interface has developed the following initiatives to achieve its 2020 sustainability vision:

  • Evergreen Carpet Leasing System – in return for a monthly leasing charge, InterfaceFLOR undertakes to maintain, replace and recycle all its carpets, ensuring sustainability throughout the lifespan of a carpet
  • ReEntry® – InterfaceFLOR collects used carpet tiles for refurbishment and re-use
  • Cool Carpet® - InterfaceFLOR allows consumers to purchase certified climate neutral products and offset the CO2 emissions for the life-cycle of the products
  • Cool Fuel™ - InterfaceFLOR offsets the emissions related to fuel consumed by company cars
  • Cool CO2mmute™ – A voluntary employee scheme in the USA to offset the CO2 emissions associated with commuting to and from work
  • Trees for Travel™ - a scheme to offset all business related air travel

Impact

  • Through Cool Fuel™, InterfaceFLOR’s associates have purchased more than 423,000 gallons of fuel resulting in offsets of over 4,800 metric tonnes of CO2 and through its Trees for Travel™ scheme has offset nearly 30,000 tonnes of CO2.
  • InterfaceFLOR has also sold more than 12.5 million square metres of Cool Carpet® worldwide, resulting in more than 17,000 tonnes of CO2 being offset in Europe in the first year, and 250,00 metric tones of CO2 in total.
  • Reduced waste to landfill across the global business by 63%
  • Reduced net CO2 emissions by more than 56% on an absolute basis
  • Reduced water intake per square metre of production for modular facilities by 81%
  • Reduced total energy usage per square metre of manufactured carpet by 41%
  • Avoided cumulative waste costs of $299 million US dollars
