LSI Architects

LSI Architects is an award-winning practice of nearly 50 architects, technologists and support staff. From offices in London and Norwich, the firm undertakes projects throughout the UK and is punching above its weight in the field of sustainability and community investment.

Embedding corporate responsibility throughout the business

The firm’s 'Open Environment programme' encapsulates all that it does of a pro-bono and practice development nature, and focuses on each of the areas of Environment, Community, Marketplace and Workplace. Whereas a decade ago, this drive was mostly the preserve of the principals, it is now embedded in the practice; both through the management structures, such as regular meetings and staff appraisals, and through the activities that staff at all levels are encouraged to undertake such as pro-bono community activity, giving talks, and mentoring students.

Focusing on the areas they can make the greatest difference

In addition to the firm’s core commitment to sustainable design and development, it is taking action to improve the employment aspirations of local students through a programme of mentored work experience placements and employee engagement with local schools and colleges.

The firm also contributes significant resources to its pro-bono programme, providing architectural and design related support to local community organisations that not only further the company’s commitment to sustainability but also offer opportunities for them to engage employees across the breadth of the business.   A key partner for LSI Architects in this field is Norfolk ProHelp, which is chaired by LSI Principal David Thompson and further supported by LSI through additional employee time and expertise on specific design related projects.

Engaging employees

Participation in community activity is a key part of LSI’s practice culture, which is stimulated by managers who set an example in respect of community investment.  Both Members and Associates lead participation in community activities and encourage colleagues to join them. Pro-bono activity is used as a valuable opportunity to train employees and offer management opportunities to junior staff and the benefits of overall community engagement is reflected by staff surveys, where LSI employees rate community programmes very highly when asked about job satisfaction.
