Highly Commended: BAA London Stansted

I didn’t like this job; I thought I had better work harder at school so that I don’t end up doing this.

BAA London Stansted have been involved with Harlow Education and Employer Partnership for over a year and have supported four Harlow secondary schools with alternative work related activity including, work experience talks at parents’ evenings, being part of the Diploma Development Board, and supporting educators in designing the delivery of a new suite of qualifications.

BAA London Stansted wanted to develop an alternative 'work related' activity that would benefit young people, whilst demonstrating the variety of roles that support an airport operation both within their own organisation, and within the other businesses that trade from the airport.

The young people are able to gain new practical skills and certificates in a variety of areas such as, health and safety training, fire training, customer service and confidence building.

Staff involvement played a key role in supporting the project, thus developing their own skills as well.

Impact

Four Harlow secondary schools have participated in the Project.

Raised aspirations of young people in the local area.

Job packs given to all participants with tips on CV writing, application form filling and interview techniques
