The business issue
Orla KingNorthern BankNorthern Bank through the “Northern Well-being Get Fit for Life” programme was keen to live up to its brand values of integrity, accessibility, commitment, value, creation and expertise. We were able to encourage many people to become involved in making it theirs and empowering their colleagues to become involved.
Northern Bank is part of Danske Bank Group and is one of the leading Banks in NI, with 83 branches across the Province, employing 1,800 staff.
As an employer it recognises the importance of employee engagement and knows the benefits of a healthy, happy workforce who are proud to contribute to its ongoing success.
It seeks to promote among its staff a commitment to community involvement as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
Impact
- Employee engagement has increased in 2009 against a backdrop of a challenging financial climate
- 90% participation in the Employee Opinion Survey; 80% participation in Wellbeing survey
- 75% of Northern Bank staff say that the Bank cares for the wellbeing of its employees

- Smoking Cessation – 75% of participants in the programme stopped smoking
- Contributions to Northern Bank’s charity of the year increased by £27k in 2009
