ENGAGE in France: One Day One Job

Un Jour, Un Metier

The One Day One Job programme aims to provide students with an insight into the workings of an international business and its different departments. The programme, now running in Paris, Lyon, Nice and Toulouse, enables students to come away with an idea of what a typical day involves for a professional employee in roles such as lawyers, IT support technicians, Business Development managers and Human Resources assistants.

Process

The students are welcomed in the morning as new recruits, taught how to draft a mini-CV and how to research companies online. Each company provides the students with a brief introduction to its business and students are taken on a guided tour of their premises.

Students are then split into different groups and taken to a different department of the company. Each group is set specific tasks relating to the work carried out in such department (such as using Power Point or video conferencing facilities).

Students are then asked in the afternoon to use the skills they have learned during their tasks to do a powerpoint presentation on the department they visited to the other students. Some even take part in a video conference and give a presentation to students visiting another company or to foreign employees of the company. The video conferencing facility can demonstrate the international elements of business and the importance of using foreign languages to link up with international offices.
