Hundreds of PwC business volunteers complete Fermanagh Cares Challenges

As one of Northern Ireland’s largest employers we have a responsibility to put something back into our community. Business in the Community’s Cares Challenges give us the opportunity to do that and we are delighted to have the opportunity to help community initiatives in Fermanagh.

Oliver FordePricewaterhouseCooper's Assurance Partner

As an organisation committed to Corporate Responsibility PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) has in recent years made a significant contribution to local communities and staff development through a wide range of employee volunteering programmes.

Working in partnership with Business in the Community PwC has taken the opportunity of using staff conferences to mobilise over 550 employees to participate in meaningful community based team challenges over the last couple of years.

The last challenge involved 250 staff from PwC completing a host of Business in the Community Cares Challenges across Fermanagh.

Business Objective

As part of PwC’s annual away day for its Assurance team, staff volunteers supported community initiatives at locations around the county.

At Crom, on the banks of Lough Erne, the coppicing of native trees was carried out, helping sunlight spill onto ground level, increasing diversity. Badly overgrown land at the Devenish Partnership Forum was a target for another challenge, while at the Lifestart Centre in Enniskillen, paintbrushes and rollers swung into action to decorate a new family room. Lisnaskea Community Enterprise Ltd received help with a major clean-up and the Share Holiday Village was given a lick of paint.

Impact

  • The feedback from both the groups and the volunteers shows that the whole event was extremely successful helping a variety of community groups and charities
  • For PwC staff helping local communities deliver projects that would otherwise not get done helps build project planning, teambuilding and communications skills
  • PwC staff also get a better understanding and education of what these voluntary and community groups are trying to achieve
  • The community groups reported a tremendous savings in time, money and resources
  • The publicity also helped the voluntary and community groups get more recognition of their efforts across Northern Ireland
