Fergal Doyle, Delta Packaging

Northern Ireland-owned Delta Print and Packaging manufactures printed packaging for the retail, food, consumer electronics, household goods, dairy, confectionery and food service sectors across the UK and Europe. Now in its 30th year, it operates from a production base on the outskirts of Belfast.

What Delta Print and Packaging did

Experiencing year on year growth, the company embraces continuous improvement. Its Environmental Management System was introduced to prevent pollution, manage waste, comply with legislation and has resulted in it successfully attaining EN14001.

A waste segregation scheme was initiated with the use of Visual Management Control and the Five S’s management techniques; sort, set in order, sweep, standardise and sustain. Various waste streams generated from its manufacturing processes were tendered for appropriate recycling or disposal by waste carriers. The company engaged with the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme and was coupled with other industries requesting its wastes as a resource. It now generates a revenue from the outputs once deemed as waste.

  • Achieved ISO14001 Certification in September 2011
