Building Opportunities - A Toolkit for Social Landlords

This toolkit is based on findings from a pilot which ran in Birmingham and Bristol between September 2008 and March 2010. Business in the Community worked with two housing associations, Midland Heart and Places for People, to build local multi-business partnerships to support local residents with employability. The pilot was supported by the Tenant Services Authority and Wates.

A Toolkit for Social Landlords [1675kb PDF]

In 2009/10 a pilot project between BITC and two social landlords supported 111 residents in North Lozells (Birmingham) and St Pauls and South Bristol (Bristol) with 200 employability activities.  19 multi-sector businesses gave support to the pilot and the residents engaged in a wide variety of employability opportunities.

This resource highlights the most important lessons learned and how these can be adapted to support other social landlords.
