HCL Employees transform Surrey Docks Farm

A win-win day for all concerned - and the Farm is hoping HCL comes back before too long.

Barry Mason Manager - Surrey Docks Farm

HCL, as part of their company drive to engage in their local communities through Surrey Cares, helped to transform Surrey Docks Farm for the staff and visitors. The challenge was completed by 17 employee volunteers from HCL and was a great success.

Surrey Docks Farm is visited by a wide selection of the local community and provides a unique learning environment for local schools and community groups. The Farm provides the facilities and expertise to teach the local community about farming and food production. The Farm boasts an orchard, dye garden, vegetable garden, herb garden and wild area and offers opportunities for environmental and educational projects all year round. The work completed by the HCL team improved the immediate environment as well as enabling Farm staff to concentrate on other areas.

HCL is a leading global Technology and IT enterprise who strive to make a positive contribution to their local communities. The volunteers worked hard for over six hours to complete the tasks for the Farm. They re-painted a black and white barn, stained a large shed, helped with the animals, weeded and cleared pathways; a far cry from their day jobs! "It's rare for IT companies to do farm work," said Barry Mason (Surrey Docks Farm Manager), "but the day was a lovely expample of people from very differect backgrounds and skill-sets working together towards a common goal."

HCL employee volunteers had a great day and enjoyed working with colleagues in a different environment and the opportunity to do something beneficial for the local community. "The most rewarding aspect of volunteering was meeting new people, doing work outside of my comfort zone and contributing to the community." - HCL employee volunteer.
