Simon Hooton, Director of Policy & Strategy, South West of England Regional Development Agency
Simon spent ten years in the voluntary sector working in children's development and environment and community enterprise; during this time he set up a number of charities both locally and nationally. Simon then joined Bristol City Council managing the Urban Programme, City Challenge bids and early rounds of SRB before becoming Economic Development Manager.
Nine years ago, Simon was seconded to help set up the Regional Development Agency in the South West. He is responsible for the Regional Economic Strategy, economics, research, corporate and European policy, culture, tourism, sustainable development and diversity. He has been involved in setting up a number of organisations, such as the Regional Observatory, Sustainability South West and Equality South West.

Colin Drummond, Chief Executive, Viridor Waste
Colin Drummond is Chief Executive of Viridor Waste, one of the UK’s leading waste management and renewable energy companies, and an Executive Director of Pennon Group PLC (owner of Viridor and South West Water). Prior to this, Colin was Chief Executive of Coats Viyella Yarns Division, an Executive Director of Renold PLC, a Consultant with the Boston Consulting Group and an official with the Bank of England.
Colin is also Chairman of the Government’s Environmental Sector Advisory Group, Chairman of the Environmental Knowledge Transfer Network, a Director of Sustainability South West, and Master of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators.
He has an MA from Oxford and an MBA from Harvard.

Jane Shipway, BT South West Regional Board Member
Jane is an Audit Manager and although her responsibilities span the globe she is based at home near Truro in Cornwall. She manages a small team of audit professionals and has responsibility for auditing the BT Retail business operations. Prior to this role Jane managed the audit team for Group Operations including HR and Security.
During her time in audit Jane has been seconded to work with fellow auditors in an oil company in Canada to research and develop a Control & Risk Self assessment technique to meet BT's needs. This technique is now widely used by all BT's Lines of Business in their Corporate Governance process and BT's Internal Audit Department was one of the very first in the UK to adopt and promote this successful approach.
As a member of the BT South West Regional Board Jane brings a lot of experience to the team and has recently also taken on the extra responsibility of CSR Champion for the region to raise awareness and promote BT's CSR activities in the South West.
Jane is also a trustee of the BT Benevolent Fund and is a Magistrate on the West Cornwall bench sitting in both adult and youth courts.

Dr Julian Dennis, Director of Compliance & Sustainability, Wessex Water & Chair of Sustainability South West
Julian Dennis joined Wessex Water in 2003 and was appointed Director of Environment, Science & Sustainability in April 2004.
A microbiologist, he studied for his Ph.D. whilst with the Public Health Laboratory Service at CAMR Porton Down. Later, in 1988, joining Thames Water where he was appointed Chief Scientist in 1999.
He has published 58 research and review papers and contributed to several textbooks and was a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Microbiology. He has been a convenor and member of BSI technical committees and convenor of ISO committees. He is a Director of UKWIR and is currently Chairman of Sustainability South West and a Trustee of ENVOLVE (a Bath based sustainability charity).
His personal interests include the development and implementation of sustainability accounting and the application of Corporate Social Responsibility principles into business processes.

Antony Turner, Managing Director, Carbon Sense
Antony Turner is the Founder and Managing Director of CarbonSense. He co-authored the report for BT entitled ‘What Would a Genuinely Carbon Neutral BT look like?’ He is particularly proud of organising an event at the UK Treasury in 2005 called ‘Carbon as Currency’.
His career before starting CarbonSense was principally in engineering where he built a successful track-record launching innovative technologies worldwide. In 1999 he helped set up the ‘Business & Sustainability’ courses at Schumacher College, which he managed for five years, and in 2000 he wrote the industry submission on wave and tidal power for the House of Commons Science & Technology Committee. Antony believes most tough questions in life can be answered by asking “what would nature do?”
