Business Action on Skills

Business Action on Skills tackles the issue of poor literacy, language and numeracy in the workplace by supporting employers in developing and implementing Government-supported workplace training programmes.

Business in the Community is already improving the numeracy and literacy skills of more than 50,000 employees by engaging more than 100 large businesses in the Business Action on Skills campaign. These include Dollond & Aitchison, First Group, Ford Motor Company, MacDonalds, Rentokil Initial, Royal Mail, Serco Group, VT Group and Walkers Snack Foods.

Senior business leaders have also joined the campaign’s Skills Champion Network, committing to act as ambassadors for Skills and inspiring peers, suppliers and clients into action.

Skills can unlock the potential of your people, improve your performance and increase your profits.

The Skills Practitioner Network

The next Skills Practitioner Network meeting will be hosted by Ford at the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence in Rainham, Essex on the 25th September 2008.

The theme of the day is funding, with a panel of experts answering your questions.

Living Skills Magazine - Spring 2008 edition

Front cover of Living Skills magazine Spring 08 edition

Living Skills is the magazine of Business Action on Skills. It brings together the diverse voices of UK Plc seeking to support their employees through Skills for Life programmes and sets the scene for the wider Government agenda on skills and talent, asking: what could it mean for you?

It provides companies with illuminating case studies, first-hand accounts from some of our Skills Champions and an introduction to some of the toolkits on offer to support businesses in encouraging and supporting them to take action on the training needs of their staff.

In our new Spring 2008 issue, we look at the recent Talent Summit and what it means for UK Plc; how the Skills Pledge should be imperative for all companies wanting to upskill their employees; and we profile the new UK Commission for Employment and Skills, seeking to strengthen employers’ voices for Government.
