What is the Network?

The May Day Network is the UK’s largest group of businesses and organisations committed to collectively tackling climate change by mobilising their companies, employees, suppliers and customers.  By sharing best practice, these businesses promise to play a powerful role in reducing the UK's carbon emissions.

The Network has over 800 members and is free to join at any time.  Approximately 40% of these are large businesses, 20% mid-sized businesses, and another 40% are small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

All members commit to tackle climate change by pledging to take one or more of the following six actions:

1.  Calculate your company’s carbon footprint
2.  Report your carbon footprint publicly or to Business in the Community
3.  Set an absolute target and take action to reduce your company’s emissions
4.  Encourage employees to reduce their carbon footprint at home and at work
5.  Mobilise customers to take action
6.  Work in partnership with suppliers to reduce emissions in the supply chain

All May Day Network members will be requested to report back on their progress against pledges by May 2009. Those who commit to and fulfill pledges 1 and 2, and report back upon request, will be eligible to use the May Day Network logo in their own marketing materials. The 2008 report back is now complete.  Business in the Community will contact all May Day Network members when submissions for the 2009 report back are being accepted.
