Sally Sykes
Head of UK Communications for AstraZeneca
Sally Sykes is the UK Head of UK Communications for AstraZeneca, leading the 20-strong team responsible for the effective delivery of regional internal, external communications and corporate responsibility within the UK, in partnership with AstraZeneca’s Head Office Corporate Affairs team, in Stanhope Gate, London.
She is a senior communications and public affairs practitioner and has held roles with Ciba-Geigy (chemicals), Scottish Courage (hotels and brewing), Littlewoods (home shopping) and, prior to joining AstraZeneca, was Head of Press and Public Relations at Manchester Airport Group (UK) from 1996 – 2002. Sally is an English Literature graduate and holds the Masters degree in PR from Stirling University.
In October 2001, she was selected by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ (CIPR) North West as its “PR Professional of the Year” and the Manchester Airport team won a gold award for “Best In-house Campaign” for the launch of the airport’s second runway. She was elected as the Chair of the CIPR in the North West in 2004.
