The UK Government encourages all organisations, whether public or private, to consider human rights in all of their policies and practices. In 2009 the Government commissioned a scoping study to understand more about how UK businesses are engaging with human rights.

One of the recommendations from the Race to the Top report was to organise workplace mentoring, support employee networks and provide credible role models. With this in mind RfO have launched a BAME Womens Mentoring programme to help progress the career prospects of BAME women.

British ethnic minorities are better represented in higher education than their share of the general population. However, BAME graduates are failing to find employment as easily as their white counterparts. The RfO campaign, established in 1995, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year. We are currently planning a series of activities to run throughout 2010 that will promote and showcase the achievements of RfO network employers in progressing race equality in the workplace and culminate with the RfO Annual Awards dinner in September.

More than 10% of the UK workforce is from an ethnic minority background and over 20% of the emerging workforce, (children in primary and secondary education), are from an ethnic minority background.
