Daniel Pillai is currently Director of The Sustainable Building Envelope Centre (SBEC) for Tata Steel. This centre of excellence is a joint venture between Tata Steel, Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI) and the Welsh Assembly Government and will, over three years, accelerate the development of low and zero carbon solutions using the building envelope / fabric as platform for generating, storing, buffering, conserving, dissipating and optimally managing the use of renewable energy.
Daniel has been with Tata since 2005 and prior to this role was General Manager of the Tata Steel Panel Business.
Daniel holds an honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Strathclyde. Prior to joining Tata, he worked for leading organisations in the pre-engineered steel framed building industry and held senior international roles in structural design, NPD in steel framing and envelope systems, sales and marketing, business development, strategy, licensing, setting up joint ventures, start ups, acquisitions and general management.
Daniel is passionate about sustainability and has been actively involved in representing the industry in the development of Part L of building regulations and presented to the UN high level commission tasked with Post Millenium Goals on Energy beyond 2015.
