Dermot leads the Royal Mail HR Service Centre. The unit looks after all the needs of some 150,000 employees and a further 250,000 pensioners covering the entire employee life cycle.
Since the creation of the Centre, just over 11 years ago, staff numbers have reduced by over two-thirds and cost savings in excess of £70m per annum have been made.
Every week his two biggest headaches are to recruit 200 people – to replace those who left the previous week - and to ensure the smooth payment of some 124,000 weekly paid employees.
The team have won many awards including Personnel Today for Excellence in Outsourcing and Shared Services and also the overall winner for Excellence and the IQPC European Shared Services Organisation of the year.
Dermot has worked for Royal Mail for over 26 years in a wide variety of financial roles. Prior to this he has worked in a wide variety of organisations based in the North East of England.
He holds a masters degree from Cass Business School, is a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and is both a qualified internal and computer auditor.
