Professor John Wilson is Executive Dean of Glasgow School for Business and Society and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching. He is a Professor of Public Policy and Management and has published extensively on the economics and politics of public service provision, particularly relating to local government. He has provided numerous consultancy and executive training courses.
He has an academic background in politics and economics (BA, MA, PhD) and is a qualified accountant (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) and marketer (Chartered Institute of Marketing). He joined GCU from the University of Salford where he was the founding Head of Salford Business School, which was created in August 2006 from the merger of four existing schools.
Prior to that he was Dean of Teesside Business School, Teesside University, (2000-2006) and before Teesside fulfilled a variety of roles at Liverpool Business School, Liverpool John Moores University (1986-1999) including Deputy Director of the School. Before entering higher education, he was an accountant at Lancashire County Council (1980-86).
Professor Wilson has delivered many international conference presentations and is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of Harbin Institute of Technology, China, and Chair of the International Advisory Board of the China Guanghua Nurse Fund.
