Jonny is a fourth generation family owner of Wates Group. He joined the family business in 1995 after 6 years working in brand marketing at International Distillers and Vintners (IDV), now part of drinks giant Diageo. He joined IDV after gaining his first degree at Warwick University.
In 1999/2000, Jonny completed a full time MBA at Cranfield School of Management. On returning to Wates, he assumed a group-wide role with responsibility for marketing and communications, which included overseeing a complete re-branding of the business. In 2003, he was appointed head of strategy for Wates Group and led a strategic review at corporate and sector level.
He is currently a member of the Wates Group Board and a director of Gambado Ltd one of the UK’s leading indoor children’s play businesses.
Jonny is the Founder and Chairman of Myriad CEG a leading provider of on-site renewable energy solutions and a director of Gambado Ltd one of the UK’s leading indoor children’s play businesses.
Jonny is a keen sportsman, a governor of Cranleigh School, a Trustee of the Wates Family Enterprise Trust and the William Wates Memorial Trust (WWMT). He has taken part in 2 organised charity cycle rides for WWMT mirroring the Tour de France route, the most recent of which attracted 140 riders and raised over £400,000.
Jonny lives in West Sussex with his wife and three children.
