I've worked in fashion retailing since 1993 starting at New Look, moving to Next and I’ve been at George from 2003.
During my time at George I have progressed through several Buying & Sourcing roles and have held the role of Senior Director Quality & Sourcing from April 2014 where I am privileged to lead a talented and diverse team. To continue my focus on people and making the future better I am also a trustee of the Asda Foundation charity and the sponsor for our George House Functional Colleague team.
I am passionate about putting people at the heart of what we do, from the colleagues I work with as part of Team George, to our factories to our shop floors – for me it is about always "Doing the Right Thing" and being "Better Together" operating as one team always.
I’ve worked in clothing retail for over 20 years and through that time I’ve seen and operated within a changing world of sourcing & buying. Responsible business is focussed for my role and within the business on sourcing responsible.
George has always been focussed on doing business in the right way, but style, price and quality are no longer enough without also making sure we’re doing the right thing as a business – ensuring the people who actually make our products are treated fairly and paid a good wage, whilst also reducing our environmental impact, so that our customers can buy George clothes with a clear conscience.
Within my role I lead the George Responsible Retail Program which focusses on everything from transparent sourcing to our engagement & well-being programs; to how we raise the bar on how we operate; and our social impact projects. Leading companies are making Responsible Sourcing part of their DNA – they are training people across the total business and setting a clear strategy on how they expect their company to operate and what they expect and require from their supplier base. At George I have the opportunity to make responsible sourcing part of our companies DNA, throughout the supply chain, 365 days a year to drive a real business benefit for all.
Why Lynne has been nominated
"Lynne was the obvious nominee for this role. Whilst her role as Senior Director for Quality & Sourcing would be a natural fit for the content of the programme, it is her attitude and leadership style that makes her the obvious candidate. Lynne is passionate about doing the right thing for our customers, but excels in making me always do the right thing for our colleagues. Lynne is a strong leader today but will be an outstanding leader for the future." - Nick Jones, MD George Clothing & George Home, George
