Michael Hayden was nominated to the role of the Prince’s Ambassador for Wales for his commitment to broadening the responsible business network in Mid and South West Wales and his passion for business to make a difference to the lives of young people.
Michael is a senior member of the team within Barclays Corporate Banking and has recently been appointed as the Head of Business & Corporate Banking for West Wales. In addition to his support for local charities such as Maggie’s Cancer and Ty Hafan, Michael is passionate about the role business can play in supporting the ambitions and aspirations of young people in Wales.
Through his championing of the Barclays LifeSkills programme (for which BITC Cymru is the charity partner in Wales), Michael has helped BITC Cymru achieve the fantastic target of engaging with over 10,000 pupils and providing them with essential employability and communication skills to help prepare them for the world of work. He has also played a vital role in increasing the number of Barclays volunteers who have taken part in LifeSkills workshops over the last year.
Michael is a long-standing and well-respected member of the South West Wales business community, where BITC Cymru has a growing presence and commitment. Last year he helped to introduce responsible business achievements into the assessment process for the Swansea Top 100; ensuring that the assessors broadened their consideration beyond simple financial metrics.
Michael is a passionate believer in the positive role that business can play in communities across Wales and is committed to ensuring all of his clients gain the added value from their own responsible business practices.
