Nigel Annett grew up in Northern Ireland and after London Business School spent 10 years in investment banking in London and New York before joining Welsh Water as Regulation Director in 1993. In 1999 he left Welsh Water to form Glas Cymru with his colleague Chris Jones and in 2001 Glas Cymru, a not-for-profit company, acquired Welsh Water in a takeover funded by a £1.9 billion bond issue. Nigel became Managing Director of Welsh Water in 2005. He is also Chair of Wateraid in Wales, the charity that supports projects to deliver drinking water and sanitation in some of the poorest parts of the world. Nigel lives in an "eco-friendly" barn conversion outside Brecon and has two teenage sons Rhys and Elis. His interests include cycling and jazz and learning to speak Welsh properly.
