Sharon Clapham joined Axiom Housing Association in 1999, starting as PA to the Operations Director/Deputy Chief Executive and as the Association grew in size Sharon’s role moved to Personnel and Training Officer and then in 2006 became HR Manager looking after around 160 permanent employees.
Axiom Housing Association was established in 1967 in response to the post-war housing crisis and has since created over 2000 homes providing services to thousands of people across Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
Sharon became involved in Health and Well-being in 2010 when Axiom was successful in securing funds from the DWP’s Health, Work & Well-being Challenge Fund. Sharon co-lead a project; Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy Axiom to deliver a programme of events with the aim of reducing sick absence in the workplace.
In 2013 the Association accomplished a 50% reduction in sickness absence but also found that staff engagement had significantly improved. This was endorsed by Axiom becoming a Sunday Times Top 100 company to work for and more recently being accredited with the Investors in People Gold award. A real reflection of the Association’s core values of being a Caring, Creative and Committed organisation.
Sharon comments: “Considerable progress has been made since the launch of the project in terms of improving health and well-being at work. We are now working towards extending this programme to our residents by offering them practical advice on living a healthier and more active lifestyle led by our own Health Trainer. By the end of 2014 we are aiming to have ‘Health Champions’ in place in all of our supported housing projects to carry on the legacy of Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, and Healthy Axiom”.
