Stephen Hughes was promoted to Chief Executive on 6 March 2017. He joined the Society in December 2011 and initially held the role of Group Deputy Finance Director. He was appointed to the Society’s Board in March 2013 as Group Finance Director with responsibility for Finance, IT and Business Change.
The move to Principality followed Stephen’s six year role as Finance Director at Lloyds TSB General Insurance Limited, where he played a key role in the integration programme to join Lloyds TSB with Halifax, following the merger of the two companies in January 2009.
A qualified accountant, Stephen has had 20 years experience in finance, beginning his varied career at the automotive manufacturing companies Schaeffler UK and Calsonic Kansei, near Swansea. Other positions include Financial Controller at the Royal Doulton Company, International Financial Controller/ Director at H.P. Bulmer and later Head of Commercial Operations at Britain’s biggest Brewery, Molton Coors, before moving to the financial services sector.
Stephen lives in Swansea with his wife and three young sons. He is an avid Swansea City supporter and a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
