Andy Briggs, MBE, was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (designate) of the Phoenix Group on 1 January 2020, taking up full responsibility on 10 March 2020.

Andy has over 30 years of insurance industry leadership experience and is a qualified actuary. He has extensive knowledge of the UK regulated environment combined with experience in capital and risk management, strategic and business skills and experience of organisational change.

He was Group Chief Executive of Friends Life, Managing Director of Scottish Widows and Chief Executive of the Retirement Income division at Prudential. Until April 2019 he was CEO UK Insurance of Aviva plc.

Andy is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and is Chairman of the Association of British Insurers. He also serves as the Government’s Business Champion for Older Workers and the Age Grand Challenge. Andy is also a long-term supporter of the NSPCC, currently as a Trustee and Chair of the Income Generation Committee.
