Employers should do everything they can to support the mental health of their employees. Huge strides have been made, both in awareness and action, and employers are increasingly taking an active role in supporting good mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

However, the prevalence and impact of mental health issues are severe, and employers need to urgently ramp up the breadth and quality of support they are providing.

Purpose of the event

At the breakfast we will share the findings and recommendations for employers from Business in the Community’s annual Mental Health at Work 2019 report, in partnership with Mercer Marsh Benefits and Business in the Community’s (BITC) Wellbeing Leadership Team, launched on 26 September.

The report is informed by a national survey conducted by YouGov looking at mental health, primarily through a line manager lens and also through the multiple intersectional issues of age, gender, race, LGBT+ and financial wellbeing. There will be a new spotlight on bullying and harassment.

Employer recommendations will be informed by our nine national partners: Business Disability Forum, CIPD, ILM, Involve, MIND, Mental Health First Aid England, Mental Health at Work, Salary Finance and The Society of Occupational Medicine who we collaborate with towards the common purpose of improving national mental health at work.

You will hear the business perspective from Carole Richardson, Director of People and Culture, and Katherine McGough, Head of People Services, at North Star Housing about the exemplar work they are doing on mental health and wellbeing for which they have won multiple awards and accreditations.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers and network with those from like-minded businesses.
