This industry day will give young people aged 14-19 and their parents and carers a chance to learn about the employment sectors and businesses in and around Barnsley that offer employment opportunities to young people leaving education, from school to higher education.
Barnsley Council has commissioned Business in the Community to deliver an industry day for 600 young people from schools across Barnsley and 300 parents and carers, as part of its I Know I Can initiative. The day aims to showcase the range of employment opportunities that are available for young people in the Barnsley area.
It will also provide employers with the opportunity to explain the different career and progression paths exist within their organisations, and what types of skills and qualifications young people need to enter them. This will help young people and their parents/carers to become more knowledgeable about the opportunities out there, and better able to meet employers' requirements.
I Know I Can (IKIC) is a brand developed by partnership organisations who want to make a positive contribution to the lives of the young people in Barnsley. IKIC is about young people: building confidence; creating dreams and aspirations; raising qualification levels; strengthening life skills; using help and support; taking ownership and developing a real I Know I Can attitude.
