Adam Sharples

Chairman, Money Advice Trust,

Adam is Chairman of the Money Advice Trust, a national debt advice charity, and holds non-executive roles on the boards of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Anglia Ruskin University.

He was Chairman of the Ixion Group, a not-for-profit business delivering skills, employment and business start-up support, for five years to 2017; and was a Trustee of the Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise, which merged with Business in the Community in October 2014.

Adam was previously a civil servant for nearly 25 years, working first in HM Treasury where he held posts including Director for Public Spending, responsible for budgeting for public spending as a whole. After a spell as International Director for the Inland Revenue, he moved to the Department for Work and Pensions as a Director General, where he advised ministers on welfare reform, labour market policies and commissioning employment programmes.

Adam lives in north London and enjoys looking after his grandson, playing tennis and table tennis, and supporting Spurs (for stress and pleasure in equal measure).
