Dr. Dorothy Maxwell has been working in sustainability with businesses, government and NGOs for 20 years in the USA, Europe and Asia Pacific. She has a PhD in Environmental Science and Masters in Environmental Economics & Law from Imperial College London. She specializes in sustainability in business.
She has worked with Accenture, Willis risk management and been an environmental policy maker with the European Commission, Irish government and United Nations Environment Program. She has been a Special Advisor to The Prince of Wales’s International Sustainability Unit , the UK government Sustainable Products and Green Economy programmes , Executive Director of the Natural Capital Coalition and External Advisor to McKinsey Centre for Business and Environment. In 2007 she became the Founding Director of The Sustainable Business Group consultancy. She has extensive experience in sustainable fashion and retail including with Walmart, Nike, John Smedley and the UK government led Sustainable Clothing Roadmap & Action Plan (SCAP). She is currently Head of Sustainability with House of Fraser, Sanpower Group.
She is a visiting lecturer at Imperial College London on sustainable business and writer. She is author of Valuing Natural Capital - Future Proofing Business and Finance (Greenleaf, 2015), A Very Short Introduction to Sustainable Business (Oxford University Press, upcoming) and blogs for the Huffington Post. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Science & Manufacturing & Member of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability (ICRS).
