After graduating from the University of East Anglia, Jo worked in advertising and media for ten years before joining Virgin Direct. By 1997 she worked as Marketing Director as the company launched the Virgin One account whilst juggling three young children and a demanding career.
Jo took some time out and set up her own marketing consultancy following the Virgin One account, then moved to Canada for three years where she launched her own Greeting card company.
Since returning to the UK Jo has launched and led Virgin Money Giving, a not-for-profit online fundraising website from Virgin Money, and headed up Virgin Money’s sponsorship of the London Marathon. Today Virgin Money Giving is a major force in UK charitable giving raising hundreds of millions of pounds for over six thousand UK charities.
Since 2013 Jo’s role has taken on an extended role as Head of Social Enterprise for Virgin Money as she continues to run Virgin Money Giving and the Marathon sponsorship but also extends Virgin Money’s reach across new social programmes; including Virgin Start Up support in the North East, Make £5 Grow, Fiver with Young Enterprise, the Virgin Money Community Fund and Scottish Business in the Community.
