Kevin Cunnington is the Director General of GDS and Head of Function for the Digital, Data, and Technology profession across Government. He has a strong track record of enabling organisations to address the challenges and exploit the opportunities afforded by the digital technology revolution. As Cabinet Office Race Equality Champion, Kevin is committed to increasing ethnic minority representation in the Senior Civil Service.
During his time as Race Equality Champion in Government Kevin has been working with staff networks to open up a dialogue about race by creating the Let’s Talk about Race workshops, which were recognised by BITC and shared as best practice. Under Kevin’s leadership DWP were the first Government department to mandate ethnic minority representation on SCS interview panels. Kevin joined the BITC Race Leadership Team to work more closely with BITC to identify opportunities to increase engagement and commitment to the Race Equality Campaign across Government and share the best practice and solutions being created by staff networks he is working with.
Between 2013-2016, Kevin was Director General of Business Transformation at DWP. Here, Kevin had responsibility for designing and delivering a user-centred, diverse, and efficient department and enabling a step-change in DWP's culture to get there. Key to this was the adoption of new ways of working through agile development using multi-disciplinary teams and the creation of DWP's Transformation Hubs.
Before joining Government, Kevin worked in the telecommunications sector with T-Mobile, and most recently as the global head of Online at Vodafone, covering the development and acceleration of all of Vodafone Group’s online activities across the 20 national operating companies.
