Tideway is changing the face of the construction sector from the inside out. Through a culture of collaboration, it is progressing towards a more diverse and inclusive workforce throughout the industry – leaving a lasting legacy.

Societal impacts

Tideway has been able to:

  • empower people and their families through fair pay and mental health awareness and support
  • reduce barriers to employment by being an inclusive employer and working with their supply chain to maximise our impact
  • reduce the tax payer burden by employing people with criminal convictions with the objective of providing the skills for employment so they do not go back into the prison system. This is currently estimated as being £4.81 for every £1 spent.
  • Tideway has employed 30 women and offered 41 work placements, of which over 50% moved into employment. Recruited 34 people with convictions who have sustained a job for at least 6 months.

Business impacts

Tideway has been able to:

  • engage a workforce that supports productivity and therefore project delivery
  • benefit from excellent stakeholder engagement that in turn underlines an excellent brand reputation
  • The Tideway employee engagement survey showed that 98% of Tideway employees think Tideway are a responsible business, 90% agree the company shows care and concern for its employees. and 95% say it values and promotes employee diversity. Tideway’s sickness absence rate, 2.18% is below the median of 2.5%, and the voluntary turnover rate, 10.98% is below the median 13.3%.
