Chris Rae is a partner at international law firm CMS, based in Glasgow. His specialism is commercial real estate, and he acts across sectors and clients including Virgin Money, Marie Curie, Hargreaves, Aberdeen Standard Investments, and Tarmac.
In addition to his legal work, Chris takes a lead role in community engagement at home and abroad. Within CMS, Chris takes an active role in the firm’s CR activity, including volunteering, pro bono work, and partnerships within the communities where CMS is located. He spearheads relationships with the firm’s charity partners and beneficiaries, including Inspiring Scotland, Project Scotland, The Prince’s Trust, Marie Curie, IFDAS, TrustLaw, and Social Bite.
Outside work, Chris has been an active volunteer and/or board member of charities, including Victim Support, The Prince’s Trust, and The Nepal Trust, an international development charity focusing on sustainable development in rural Nepal, which Chris runs in his spare time.
Chris says the UN Global Goals provide a framework for organisations and individuals to contribute in a more focused way to universal goals. Using them as the “north star”, towards which effort can be directed gives a clear direction and benchmark to refer to; the potential cumulative effect and impact is enormous. Chris thinks the Global Goals Leadership Team has a vital role to play in delivering on this, and identifying and sharing what best practice looks like.
