Hertfordshire Health Champions extend their knowledge of physical wellbeing

BITC partnered with the County Sports Partnership to run its second Workplace Champions’ Network event on 18 September, aimed at the 100+ Workplace Health Champions across Hertfordshire.

The Champion training was very informative and engaging. It was good for exchanging ideas with other delegates.

The session formed part of an ongoing commitment, through the Hertfordshire Public Health workplace offer, to help improve the wellbeing of employees, and took place at the University of Hertfordshire's Sports Village in Hatfield.

Delegates were able to learn more about how physical activity can help the health and wellbeing of employees in the workplace.  They heard from Joe Capon, Project Officer, Hertfordshire County Sports Partnership (CSPN) who provided formal training, along with partners including the British Heart Foundation, to enable delegates to lead on physical wellbeing initiatives within their organisations on their return to the workplace.

I found the session very helpful - to hear what resources are available and which individuals to contact for further assistance will enable me to run physical activity initiatives in our workplace.

The delegates, who had already been trained by the Royal Society of Public Health as accredited workplace health champions, exchanged best practice and updated the group on wellbeing activities undertaken within their organisations during the past six months.

Joe also familiarised the delegates with the CSPN Workplace Challenge IT portal, which enables employees and companies to record their physical activity and measure the impact this can have on improved wellbeing in the workplace.

Lisa Young from the British Heart Foundation also gave a presentation, highlighting the importance of physical exercise in maintaining a healthy heart and outlining her organisation's support for workplace wellbeing.
