SUMMARY:Opening Doors Forum: Job Descriptions That Welcome Diverse Talent
DESCRIPTION:Join our next Opening Doors Forum to share challenges and best practice on opening doors to diverse talent.\n\n\nThis is an online event. \nAudience\nOpen to both members and non-members of Business in the Community (BITC). The event will be designed for HR Managers\, Talent acquisition leads\, EDI and Responsible business leads. \n\n\nBackground\nOpening Doors is BITC’s flagship inclusive recruitment campaign. Free and open to all employers\, the campaign aims to make 2 million jobs more accessible by building a supported network of businesses committed to fair and inclusive hiring. So far\, 160+ employers are making 1.65m jobs more accessible. Join our campaign.  \n\n\nAbout the event\nIf the UK was made up of 100 employers\, 22 would close their doors to disabled people\, 35 would close their doors to school leavers and 55 would close their doors to ex-offenders. For employers\, opening their doors to diverse talent creates social and economic value. BITC’s Opening Doors 2025 Progress report highlights that 72% of signatories are making their workforce more diverse\, 64% are filling hard-to-fill vacancies and 53% are closing skills gaps – demonstrating the impact of employers sharing and learning together to improve outcomes. \nIn 2026\, the Opening Doors Forums focus on each of the ‘Five Keys to Inclusive Recruitment’. Following on from Forums on Keys 1 (Partnerships) and 2 (Showing your commitment to inclusion)\, our next forum will be on ‘Using comprehensive job descriptions with inclusive language’ (Key 3). \nJoin us for a practical session on: \n· Writing job adverts that are clear and accessible to all candidates. \n· Using neutral\, jargon-free language and avoiding unnecessary barriers. \n· Benefits and challenges around sharing full role and workplace information (salary\, hours\, location\, policies). \n· Making the application process simple and transparent. \nSpeakers include: \n·Justine Pernice\, Diversity\, Inclusion and Wellbeing Manager\, Aldermore Bank PLC \n\n\nAbout Opening Doors\nOpening Doors is Business in the Community’s (BITC) flagship inclusive recruitment campaign. Open to all employers\, and free to join\, we have an ambition to make 2 million jobs more accessible to diverse talent by supporting employers to make changes to the way they recruit. \nBusiness in the Community has created a simple framework to guide businesses through their inclusive recruitment journey. It identifies 25 actions grouped into the 5 keys to inclusive recruitment. Businesses are asked to identify at least three actions that they will implement during the campaign. \n\n\nBooking and contact details and further information\n\nContact events@bitc.org.uk for any further questions.\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community

SUMMARY:The King's Seeing is Believing Visit in Sheffield\, 12 May 2026
DESCRIPTION:Led by Andy Milner\, Chief Executive Officer\, Amey\n\n\nThis is an in-person event. Attendance by invitation only. \nAudience\n• C-suite/Senior leaders \n\n\nBackground\nIn Sheffield\, inclusive recruitment is not just a social ambition\, it is essential to the city’s long term economic success. This Seeing is Believing visit will showcase why widening access to opportunity is vital for Sheffield’s economy and communities\, and how business leaders can take practical\, measurable steps to unlock talent\, drive growth and improve social mobility. \nAligned with Sheffield’s Pride of Place Partnership and the city’s wider social mobility and growth agendas\, the visit will highlight both the need and the opportunity. Employment and skills are top priorities within the South Yorkshire Combined Authority strategy\, and inclusive recruitment is a driving principle of the Sheffield Growth Plan\, rooted in the belief that “talent is everywhere\, but opportunity is not.” Yet too many people remain excluded from the workforce despite having the potential to contribute. \nParticipants will hear directly about the barriers faced by those most excluded\, including young people not in education\, employment or training\, care leavers\, unpaid carers and young families at risk of homelessness. Through first hand insight and discussion\, business leaders will explore the role they can play in creating pathways into work\, stability and independence\, and how recruitment and human resources practices can evolve to remove barriers rather than reinforce them. \nThe visit is designed to catalyse meaningful\, long term action. Businesses will be encouraged to adapt outreach\, recruitment and human resources policies to better support underrepresented groups\, to deepen sustained collaboration through Sheffield Pride of Place Partnership\, which is uniquely placed to convene\, connect\, campaign and enable action\, and to build practical partnerships with local charities and community organisations\, contributing time\, talent and resources to support those furthest from opportunity. \nBy embedding inclusive recruitment into long term business strategy\, Sheffield’s employers can help unlock untapped talent and build a stronger\, more inclusive and more prosperous city. \n\n\nAbout this event\nThis Seeing is Believing visit will offer a unique opportunity to hear directly from young people\, educators\, experts\, and employers about what’s working—and what isn’t—when it comes to preparing young people for the world of work. By engaging as leaders\, we can work together and with Business in the Community on implementing solutions so that every young person can see and seize a future in work. \n\n\nBooking and contact details and further information\n\nFor further information\, please reach out to The King’s Seeing is Believing team (SIB@bitc.org.uk)\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community

SUMMARY:Peer Learning Forum: Refreshing your Responsible Business strategy
DESCRIPTION:Join us to explore how companies refresh responsible business strategies\, seize opportunities\, and avoid pitfalls.\n\n\nThis is an online event taking place on Microsoft Teams \nAudience\nBusiness in the Community (BITC) members with advisory\, as well as non-members who have an advisory package with us. Hosted by our issue experts\, there are 20 forums a year\, covering a range of responsible business areas and enabling our members to discuss challenges\, solutions and ideas. \n\n\nAbout the event\nYou’ll have often heard BITC’s Responsible Business Strategy & Purpose team mention that there is a danger when companies think about responsible business that ‘all their strategic bones leave their bodies’. A business wouldn’t launch a new product or invest in a new operating system without understanding the need\, the business case and the strategic approach to increasing ROI. And yet…when it comes to responsible business there are still many companies that can’t clarify the ‘why’ and overarching ‘how’ for their approach. Other companies have long been strategic\, so much so\, that their responsible business approach is embedded in their commercial strategy and there is a clear understanding about how it increases profits (Bain & Co and EcoVadis 2023). \nRegardless of the current or prior approach\, external drivers are continuing to force companies to be more strategic and get a greater bang for their buck. Employees are expecting more\, consumers are expecting more\, clients are demanding more and regulation continues to increase at an ongoing fast pace. Responsible business isn’t about doing all the things in all the ways\, it’s about focusing on the material issues\, setting goals that everyone can get behind and then delivering a tight strategy that achieves those goals. Join us at this Peer Learning Forum to hear from members who have been refreshing their strategy and the opportunities this has presented. Discuss with others the challenges and pitfalls\, so you can avoid them! \nSpeaker:  \n\nGareth Edwards\, VWW Partner\, VWW\n\n\n\nAbout Business in the Community’s Peer Learning Forums\nBITC’s Peer Learning Forums provide a confidential environment to discuss common issues\, solutions\, and good practice. There will be an emphasis on discussion and sharing experiences. All contributions from businesses will be confidential within the group and won’t be shared externally by BITC. \nBooking and contact details and further information\n\nContact events@bitc.org.uk\, Event Coordinator\, BITC for any further questions.\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community

DESCRIPTION:This is an in-person event. Attendance by invitation only. \nAudience\n• C-suite/Senior leaders \n\n\nAbout this event\nLed by Andrew Masraf\, Global Senior Partner and Chair of the Board at Pinsent Masons\, The King’s Seeing is Believing visit in London will bring together senior business leaders to explore how businesses can support social mobility and create meaningful employment opportunities for young people. \nThis visit is part of Business in the Community’s The King’s Seeing is Believing programme\, giving participants first-hand insight into how employer engagement and early intervention in schools can prevent young people from becoming NEET (not in education\, employment\, or training). As part of a series focusing on youth employment\, the visit aims to mobilise action across the UK through BITC’s Opening Doors campaign\, which brings organisations together to share learning\, shape inclusive recruitment\, and create opportunities for those furthest from the labour market. \nAcross the UK\, nearly one million young people aged 16–24 are currently NEET. Research shows that four or more meaningful employer interactions can dramatically reduce the risk of unemployment. The barriers these young people face are often not ability or ambition but access: to advice\, role models\, workplaces\, and the confidence that comes from being welcomed through the door. Business involvement matters—not just for young people’s futures\, but for the health of our economy and communities. \nDuring the visit\, participants will hear directly from young people\, educators\, and community partners. The programme will focus on how sustained engagement—from early exposure in schools to mentoring\, internships\, and collaborative programmes—can create clearer and more inclusive pathways into work. \n  \nAbout The King’s Seeing is Believing programme \nThe King’s Seeing is Believing programme was established by the then Prince of Wales in 1990. The programme\, supported by Salesforce and Linklaters LLP\, was born from a simple but powerful belief that the best way to close the gap between the boardroom and the community was to take business leaders out to the communities and\, through the power of experiential learning\, to inspire and challenge participants. The visits are designed to encourage business leaders to think strategically about the implications for their own businesses and the practical actions that can be taken in response\, leading to meaningful and sustained impact for both businesses and communities. To date\, over 25\,000 business leaders have taken part in the Seeing is Believing programme which has led to many initiatives being set up including Career Ready\, Ban the Box and mentoring circles in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions \n\n\nBooking and contact details and further information\n\nFor further information\, please reach out to The King’s Seeing is Believing team (SIB@bitc.org.uk)\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community

SUMMARY:The King's Seeing is Believing Visit in London - 23 September 2026
DESCRIPTION:London\, led by Alex Baldock\, Chief Executive Officer\, Currys\n\n\nThis is an in-person event. Attendance by invitation only. \nAudience\n• C-suite/Senior leaders \n\n\nBackground\nAcross the UK\, millions of people still face significant barriers to getting online\, despite digital services becoming essential for everyday life. Recent data shows that 7.9 million people lack basic digital skills\, 3.7 million families fall below the Minimum Digital Living Standard\, and 1.6 million adults do not have access to a digital device such as a smartphone or laptop. These gaps mean that many struggle to complete routine online tasks—from accessing government services to managing healthcare appointments—with 33% of offline adults finding it difficult to use council or government services online. Digital exclusion affects people of all ages and backgrounds\, but older adults\, disabled people\, those with lower incomes\, and people without formal qualifications are disproportionately impacted. \nThe consequences of digital exclusion go far beyond inconvenience; they deepen existing inequalities and make it harder for people to participate fully in modern society. Lack of digital access and skills can limit employment prospects\, increase household costs\, and reduce access to vital support. Research shows that 1.9 million households struggle to afford their mobile data\, leaving many forced to ration connectivity or rely on public spaces to get online. Meanwhile\, those who are online may still feel excluded—around 24% of UK adults describe themselves as digitally excluded in some form\, often due to affordability issues\, a lack of reliable broadband\, or low digital confidence. As more essential services move online\, addressing digital exclusion is critical to ensuring that no one is left behind. \n\n\nAbout this event\nThis event is part of The King’s Seeing is Believing programme. By meeting people directly affected by digital exclusion and hearing from the organisations working to close the gap\, delegates gain a deeper understanding of the issue—one that inspires practical action and stronger\, more inclusive business leadership. \n \n\n\nBooking and contact details and further information\n\nFor further information\, please reach out to The King’s Seeing is Believing team (SIB@bitc.org.uk)\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community
