SUMMARY:Peer Learning Forum: Powering Business Support for NEET Youth
DESCRIPTION:Join us to explore solutions for supporting young\, ethnically diverse NEET individuals in overcoming barriers to access and thrive at work.\n\n\nThis is an online event. \nAudience\nBusiness in the Community (BITC) members who have advisory in their membership package. Our Peer Learning Forums (PLF) are now open to all members who have advisory in their membership package – hosted by our issue experts\, there are 20 forums a year\, covering a range of responsible business areas and enabling our members to discuss challenges\, solutions and ideas. \n\n\nBackground\nBusiness in the Community (BITC) in partnership with Young Futures Foundation (YFF) is working to understand business experience on barriers and enablers that young NEET (Not in Employment\, Education\, or Training) people from ethnically diverse backgrounds face\, both in accessing and thriving in the workforce. We are presenting an opportunity for organisations to come together for a Peer Learning Forum to explore the nuance for this underserved group. This Peer Learning Forum can enable organisations to collaborate and develop strategies that address both entry barriers and the ongoing challenges young NEET people face in the workplace. \nAbout the event\nBarriers to entry: One of the primary barriers for ethnically diverse young NEET people is the systemic inequality in recruitment processes. BITC’s research has long-highlighted significant disparities\, such as a lower success rate for Black\, Asian\, and other minority ethnic candidates when applying for roles. This leads to candidates feeling less respected or not receive feedback\, which impacts their perception of fairness and limits their opportunities. Addressing these challenges requires systemic changes in recruitment practices to ensure transparency and fairness. We want to use this forum to explore businesses understanding of these challenges and enable change in organisations that is meaningful. \nBarriers to thriving: Once inside the workforce\, diverse employees often face challenges related to progression and retention. BITC’s Race at Work Charter calls on businesses to improve career progression for Black\, Asian\, and ethnically diverse employees. For instance\, 69% of ethnically diverse employees highlight the importance of career progression\, yet only 10% feel that they have the opportunities to progress within their organisations. This underlines the need for mentorship programs\, tailored development opportunities\, and policies that combat workplace discrimination. We want to use this forum to explore businesses internal cultures to see where we might be able to support organisations to make the biggest changes that will impact the most people. \nThinking of enablers: We want to use this forum to explore and build on the research that BITC and YFF have published\, putting business need and talent need together to understand how to turn barriers into enablers. \n\n\nBooking and contact details and further information\n\nContact Jessica Hart\, Event Coordinator\, BITC for any further questions.\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community

SUMMARY:The Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality 2025 Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us to launch The Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality 2025 and hear new findings on the commercial case for gender equity.\n\n\nThis is an online event. \nAudience\nThis event is open to members and non-members of Business in the Community (BITC). It has been designed to be of most benefit to those working in Corporate / External affairs\, CSR/Responsible business/ ESG\, Diversity and Inclusion and HR/People/Talent management. \n\n\nAbout the event\nIn a world where progress towards greater gender equality remains fragile\, and in some spaces\, risks rolling back\, join this session to explore: \n•  New research highlighting the ‘commercial case’ for gender equity at work – including how this applies to the working world of the future\, particularly challenges such as climate change and equitable technological innovation. \n•  How you can reap the benefits of greater gender equity by benchmarking and enhancing your approach through applying to the Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality. \nPanellists will include senior staff from previous Times Top 50 award winners such as: \n• Kelly Beaver MBE\, Chief Executive of Ipsos Mori in the UK and Ireland\, one of the UK’s largest research agencies. \n• Sharmaine Lovegrove\, MD of Dialogue Books\, an imprint of Hachette UK\, former literary editor at Elle. \n• Jackie Henry MBE\, Managing Partner for People and Purpose at Deloitte. \nGender inequality remains one of the most devastating types of inequality in the UK\, and for women and girls from poorer communities or Black\, Asian\, Mixed Race or other ethnically diverse backgrounds – things are only getting worse. \nHowever\, beyond the moral and social case\, the data is clear that greater gender diversity and equity has a large\, positive impact on businesses’ commercial performance\, both directly through increasing revenues and reducing costs\, and indirectly through enabling greater resilience to major commercial risks and opportunities\, including climate change and artificial intelligence (AI) \nThis panel discussion will consider how to utilise this new research to drive progress and reflect on how applying to the Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality – the UK’s largest\, longest established assessment of employers’ efforts on this agenda – can support businesses to improve their practice. \n\n\nBackground\nThe Times Top 50 Employers is the UK’s most high-profile and well-established listing of employers taking action to create workplaces where everyone\, regardless of gender\, can thrive. \nWomen and minoritised genders are disproportionately affected in times of more significant political and economic uncertainty\, as gender inequalities deeply entrenched in working life have a greater impact. At a time when the UK continues to experience a cost of living crisis\, women are paid less\, are more likely to be employed in severely insecure work and have less access to highly paid\, highly skilled roles due to the need of more women having to balance work and caring responsibilities. As such\, the need for employer intervention to ensure greater gender equality and avoid a backslide in progress has never been greater. \n\n\nBooking\, contact details and further information\n\nContact Jessica Hart\, Events Co-ordinator\, BITC.\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community

SUMMARY:Peer Learning Forum: Neurodiversity in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Join us to explore how we can create neuro-inclusive workplaces that empower neurodivergent colleagues to thrive.\n\n\nThis is an online event. \n\n\nAbout the event\nAlthough 15-20% of employees are likely to be neurodivergent\, only 60% of organisations have included a focus on neuro-inclusion (CIPD\, 2024). Neurodiversity is often spoken about in the context of reasonable adjustments or workplace adaptions; to embed neuro-inclusive practices the whole employee lifecycle must be considered. \nIn this Peer Learning forum\, we will speak to guests about what meaningful actions they have taken to enable neurodivergent colleagues to thrive. We will be looking at translatable strategic action which drives both the inclusion and wellbeing of neurodivergent colleagues. \nIn this Peer Learning Forum you will learn about: \n– The need to take action \n– Why neurodivergence is an intersectional issue \n– What other companies have done to increase neuro-inclusion. \nYou will leave the session with: \n– An understanding of the impact that neurodivergence has on the employee lifecycle \n– Clarity on invaluable interventions which empower neurodivergent colleagues \n– Knowledge of how to implement a person-centred approach. \nGuest Speakers\n\nTeagan Robinson-Bell\, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at Anchor\, will be joining us to share how Anchor is embedding neuro-inclusion and supporting its 11\,000 strong workforce.\nSaaika Mubeen\, EDI Manager\, General Medical Council\nRachel Qazi\, Investigations Assistant\, General Medical Council\n \n\n\n\nBooking\, contact details and further information\n– Contact Jessica Hart\, Event Coordinator\, BITC for any further questions. \n– Full joining instructions will be sent before the event. \nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community
