SUMMARY:What does health equity mean to business?
DESCRIPTION:This event will bring together business leaders taking action to foster health equity.\n\n\nThis is an online event. \nAudience\nThis event is for Business in the Community (BITC) members by invite only. If you would like to attend\, please contact Jenny.McLaren@bitc.org.uk. \n\n\nBackground\nHealth inequalities are differences in health outcomes between different groups that are avoidable and often systematic. These disparities are influenced by factors like socio-economic status\, geography\, ethnicity\, and social exclusion. \n\nPeople in the poorest parts of the UK live up to 10 years less than those in the richest areas. (Statistics on Health Inequalities in the United Kingdom)\nKey determinants of health include income\, education\, housing\, environment\, and access to healthcare.\n\n\nExisting health inequalities have been exacerbated since the pandemic\, especially for those already disadvantaged. (What are health inequalities?)\n\nBusinesses have direct and far-reaching influence on health in many ways; through their employees\, their supply chains\, in the way that they use and manage their offices\, the way they financially invest\, of course through their community engagement and investment. \nBusinesses have a significant role to play in reducing health inequalities. \n\n\nAbout the event\nThis event will bring together business leaders taking action to foster health equity. It will provide a platform to share insights\, exchange experiences\, and explore the actions businesses are taking to tackle health disparities. Attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on what health inequalities mean for business and how the private sector can be a force for positive change.  \n\n\nGuest speaker\nTBC \n\n\nBooking and contact details and further information\n\nContact Jenny.McLaren@bitc.org.uk for any further questions.\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community
