SUMMARY:Peer Learning Forum: Psychological Safety
DESCRIPTION:Join this Peer Learning Forum to explore the key concepts of psychological safety and identify ways to create a psychologically safe environment at work.\n\n\nAudience\nOur Peer Learning Forums are now open to all Business in the Community (BITC) members who have advisory in their membership package. Hosted by our issue experts\, there are 20 forums a year\, covering a range of responsible business areas and enabling our members to discuss challenges\, solutions and ideas. \nWe particularly encourage those in a wellbeing\, health and safety\, EDI\, or HR role to attend this event. \nBackground\nPsychological safety is a team concept in which it’s OK to take risks\, to express ideas and concerns\, to speak up with questions\, and to admit mistakes — all without fear of negative consequences. \nOriginally coined by Amy Edmondson in 1995\, the concept of psychological safety has become part of workplace culture; there is growing evidence* to indicate that higher-performing teams actually make more mistakes than lower-performing teams. Furthermore\, the higher performing teams were admitting more mistakes\, whilst the lower performing teams were more likely to hide theirs. \nPsychological safety is therefore imperative to positive group performance; via this honesty and openness\, risks are reduced\, new ideas are generated\, the team can execute those ideas\, and everyone feels included. Building psychological safety not only improves organisational outcomes\, but it’s the right thing to do. \n\n\nAbout this event\nThis Peer Learning Forum for BITC members will explore some of the key concepts of psychological safety\, as indicated by Dr. Timothy Clarke\, as well as the risks and opportunities to business\, when psychological safety is embedded within organisational culture. \nWe will: \n\nMake the case for why psychological safety should be adopted at all levels of organisational culture;\nExplore why psychological safety is a driver for positive individual and workplace wellbeing and inclusion outcomes;\nUncover the benefits to businesses and individuals as experienced in other organisations;\nDiscuss how organisations have embedded psychological safety across their organisation\, within teams and peer-to-peer and manager relationships.\n\nGuest speakers \n\n\nChris Garrow\, Head of Safe\, Sustainable and Wellbeing\, VVB Engineering\n\n\nBooking\, contact details and further information\n\nContact Jessica Hart\, Events Coordinator at BITC\, for any further questions.\nFull joining instructions will be sent before the event.\n\nFind out how your organisation can become a member of Business in the Community \n\nReferences \n*Psychological Safety and Learning Behavior in Work Teams
