Aviva has made cash donations to their previous long term partner, Oxfam and for the first time has been able to set up a global employee giving page with Ammando, where all currencies were accepted. This has raised over £25,000 so far, which Aviva is matching. Aviva has also contributed to Plan UK’s response as they are one of its Street to School partners, and a number of its businesses around the world have been fundraising for local partners. Aviva employees have also taken part in micromapping to support the response.
BT are supporting the DEC Nepal Earthquake Appeal through the BT MyDonate platform. The Disasters Emergency Committee has launched an appeal for donations with BT MyDonate to help those affected by the earthquake, and DEC Member agencies are on the ground right now, helping to provide aid and support to all those affected. The CH2M Foundation is providing US$10,000 to match one-for-one (up to a maximum of US$1,000 per person) all eligible financial donations by employees to support any formal Red Cross or Red Crescent Nepal Earthquake Appeal through 15 May, 2015. As of 6 May, more than 400 CH2M global employees have contributed US$50,500 which when coupled with the CH2M Foundation US$10,000 match brings the total contribution to the Red Cross to US$60,000.
In response to the Nepal Earthquake, Costa have made a corporate donation to the DEC Appeal on behalf of their team members and customers. Costa are also supportive of the fundraising activities that many teams are doing independently through their stores and personal networks, and will apply matched funding to team members’ activity through the company "Raise and Match" scheme.
Deutsche Post DHL
Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) Group, the world´s leading logistics provider, has deployed their Disaster Response Team (DRT) in Kathmandu, Nepal in response to the earthquake. The international aid community is now gearing up to fly in urgently needed goods like technical equipment, water and food. DPDHL Group’s DRT will provide logistics support to help manage the incoming international aid and handle the goods at Tribhuvan Kathmandu International Airport for further distribution by local and international organizations to those in need.
A team of DRT volunteers consisting of DHL employees from countries such as Bahrain, Belgium, Dubai, India, Malaysia and Singapore arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal on 27 April, where they are supported by Gagan Mukhia, Country Manager, DHL Express Nepal. The team will work with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) to mobilize and coordinate humanitarian relief efforts in Nepal.
DPDHL has previously conducted disaster preparedness training at five airports in Nepal in 2010 as part of their Get Airports Ready for Disaster (GARD) programme - TIA (Kathmandu), Nepalganj, Biratnagar, Simara and Pokhara.
With the devastation caused by the recent 7.8 magnitude Nepal earthquake The Eversheds Charitable Trust, established to support and fund charitable activities by people in the business, have pledged their support to the relief efforts donating £10,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
Experian have launched a global collection campaign on the company intranet, to raise funds for the Red Cross appeal. Through an online platform Experian employees in the five regions will be able to send donations to the Red Cross, which will be matched by Experian.
Ferrovial launched a special edition of their Stronger Together Programme following the first devastating earthquake on 25th April in Nepal. On hearing the news of the second major earthquake on 12th May, the company has extended the period of contributions to maximise support.
Arrangements have been made with UNICEF and Oxfam in the UK and Unicef, Oxfam, Cruz Roja Española, Acción contra el Hambre in Spain so that the company can match any contributions made to the cause by Ferrovial employees.
With over a week still remaining to make a contribution through these two platforms, employees have raised almost €40,000 which will be matched by Ferrovial. Donations continue to be made online across the globe as well as additional fundraising activities from various teams.
Stronger Together was set up in 2005 in response to the commitment of the company and its employees to support the international community. To date, the programme has donated over €1million to different projects globally.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer activated a firm-wide disaster response policy following the Nepal earthquake. We made a central £50k donation to DEC and activated a dedicated portal for staff donations, which were matched by the firm up to £25,000. Since the second earthquake we have doubled our matching of staff donations to £50,000.
As an initial response, the GE Foundation is donating US$500,000 to AmeriCares to support relief efforts in Nepal. Founded in 1982, AmeriCares is a global health and emergency response organisation. The agency will focus its efforts on immediate recovery operations, medical aid and relief supplies. GE employees are mobilising to assist the victims of this tragedy, along with specific support from GE’s Asia Pacific American Forum (APAF). GE’s ongoing matching gifts program is matching eligible employee donations.
Through Google's Person Finder function, Google is helping to locate individuals in the stricken region by allowing family members and friends to request and provide information about missing persons on the site. Google has enabled Crisis Maps and satellite imagery to aid in the relief efforts, and Google Voice has also decreased the cost of calls to Nepal. Google has committed $3.5m in response including a a $1M employee gift matching campaign. An additional employee gift match campaign will benefit the Dan Fredinburg Foundation; Fredinburg was a Google employee who lost his life in the earthquake.
Following the earthquake in Nepal, GSK is working with its humanitarian aid partners providing urgently needed funds and medical supplies to support their response in the affected area. GSK has donated £50,000 each to Save the Children and CARE International, providing for the immediate needs of shelter, water, food, hygiene and sanitation. Both CARE International and Save the Children have a long-established presence in Nepal and are providing an immediate response.
GSK are also working with our medicine donation partners – AmeriCares, Direct Relief and Project HOPE – who are experienced in the delivery of humanitarian aid, to assess medical needs and respond. A first small consignment of antibiotics and anti-infective creams from GSK has already been delivered by a team from AmeriCares, to be followed by further shipments in the coming days and weeks.
Hilton Worldwide are committed to supporting the communities globally where its employees live, work and travel, particularly in times of disaster, in line with its global corporate responsibility strategy, Travel with Purpose. Hilton Worldwide Responds Fund sponsored charities MercyCorps, Oxfam and Save the Children are already on the ground in Nepal responding to recovery efforts and addressing the immediate needs for shelter, food, clean water and medical assistance. Hilton Team Members are invited to make a donation to the Fund, which will be used directly to deliver lifesaving relief to survivors and provide the resources needed to help rebuild Nepal.
Hogan Lovells activated its newly launched global disaster relief response policy following the Nepal earthquake. The firm globally supports CARE International through its wider Citizenship program and is currently matching staff donations to CARE's relief efforts through the charity's online partner Ammado, a bespoke online donation platform.
As part of the firm’s recently launched global initiative to Empower Girls and Women, Hogan Lovells' donation will contribute to CARE’s long term emergency response focused on shelter and preventing gender-based violence. Women and girls are the most vulnerable following a natural disaster due to their insecure and vulnerable living conditions in temporary housing camps.
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG)
IHG has reacted quickly, making an initial donation of US $100,000 from the IHG® Shelter in a Storm programme to provide immediate disaster relief in the community, working with its global disaster relief partner CARE to decide where best to direct the donation.
Due to the number of requests received since the disaster, the Group has set up an IHG Shelter in a Storm fundraising page especially for Nepal. Colleagues can donate via this website, which is also being promoted externally through social media and emails.
IHG have confirmed that all guests at Crowne Plaza® Kathmandu-Soaltee Hotel, Nepal and its hotels in North India (in particular New Delhi, Jaipur and Ahmedabad) who were also impacted by the quake, are safe and accounted for. Unfortunately, the safety and whereabouts of those Kathmandu colleagues who were off duty at the time cannot yet be confirmed. IHG is working around the clock to try and locate them all and provide them with support as quickly as possible.

Jaguar Land Rover
Jaguar Land Rover is working with its partner the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to respond to the Nepal earthquake. The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has reached 400,000 people so far. With extensive experience in responding to natural disasters, NRCS play a lead role in the government’s contingency plans. 600 NRCS staff and volunteers are involved in search and rescue, pulling people from the rubble, and providing first aid to injured people.
NRCS have so far provided 191,000 sets of ropes and tarpaulins for those needing temporary shelter and are mobilising pre-positioned stocks for up to 18,000 families for distribution in the coming weeks. The organisation's blood bank in Kathmandu is also providing blood supplies to the main medical facilities in the capital. Jaguar Land Rover employees have donated £14,400 to the British Red Cross appeal to date which will bring in urgently-needed support – including food, safe drinking water, emergency shelter and medical equipment.
JLL India is working with Habitat for Humanity, and employees have raised and donated approximately $50,000, matched by JLL. At the recommendation of the India team, JLL has selected CAF India to receive a firm-wide donation
Kellogg Company donated $200,000 donation to the World Food Programme (WFP) to assist with disaster relief and humanitarian efforts following the devastating earthquake in Nepal and the surrounding region. The contribution is being made by the company and its charitable arm, the Kellogg Company Fund. Affiliated with the United Nations, WFP is the world's largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger, both the chronic needs of the most at-risk populations around the globe along with disaster relief needs like those in Nepal.
Kellogg also has a global commitment to hunger relief through its Breakfasts for Better DaysTM initiative. In the past two years alone, Kellogg has donated 900 million servings of cereal and snacks, more than half of which were breakfast foods, to children and families in need around the world.
As a result of a new partnership with the International Red Cross and Medecins Sans Frontieres, Linklaters have been able to provide immediate support to relief efforts following Saturday’s earthquake in Nepal. With this new commitment, it now makes a significant donation to each charity on an annual basis, ensuring that they have funds available as soon as a disaster such as this occurs. It also means they can respond more swiftly to those situations such as famine or civil unrest that unfold more slowly and where public appeals are sometimes less successful.
Lloyd's have organised for its partner charity RedR to do a collection at the Lloyd’s building for their Nepal Earthquake Appeal. Lloyd’s will continue to liaise with its partner charities responding in the region, RedR and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Marsh & McLennan Companies
Following the devastating earthquake in Nepal on Saturday the Company’s disaster response protocol was activated. Through the Company’s partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Marsh & McLennan Companies’ dollars were on the ground immediately. The Company will match all colleague contributions made through the IFRC until 31 May. Additionally, the Company has committed US$50,000 to the rebuilding efforts.
Domestically, through its subsidiary Marsh, Marsh & McLennan Companies is actively engaged in the work of BITC’s Business Emergency Recovery Group (BERG), which helps businesses and communities prepare for, respond to and recover from crises in the UK.
The Post Office
The Post Office has an ongoing relationship with DEC. All post offices (approx. 11,500 locations) are accepting donations for the Nepal appeal. DEC signposts post offices as a destination to pay in donations.
Procter and Gamble
Procter and Gamble is working to help aid the journey to recovery through its partners, brands and financial resources. Right now, the company is working to supply P&G Purifier of Water packets to help with the critical need for clean drinking water. Initially, P&G's partners are planning to distribute enough P&G packets to provide two million liters of clean water, and P&G will continue to support additional distribution as needed.
To aid the critical need for food, shelter and other necessities, P&G will provide monetary grant support to its long-standing global emergency relief partner organisations including AmeriCares, CARE, International Medical Corps, Save the Children and World Vision. All of these partners are currently on the ground in Nepal providing lifesaving care and supplies to those in need.
As the rescue phase shifts to recovery P&G will be working with its partners to determine how its brands can continue to help where and when they’re needed most.
RBS has responded to the earthquake in Nepal in a number of ways. The company has made a direct donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Nepal Crisis Appeal and all our branches in RBS, NatWest and Ulster Bank are facilitating free donations across their counters and via ATMs to DEC. While the branches are displaying DEC Appeal posters, we have also placed links and banners on our customer facing internet pages and social media to DEC’s appeal pages so they can make online donations.
We have also made it easier for customers and colleagues to help the victims of the earthquake by allowing free international money transfers to Nepal. The bank will waive their fee for sending payments to Nepal. Any agents’ charges will also be waived. This offer will run until 30th October to align with the end of the DEC appeal. We have facilitated staff donations, making it easy for staff to give via the bank’s Payroll Giving Scheme or by setting up their own RBS Sponsor Me page on our internal Community Giving and Volunteering portal, where they can raise funds for up to 6 charities of their choice for this appeal. Until the end of June, the bank will provide a match of £100 per event which raises over £100.
In several countries, including the UK, Shell is providing local staff with the opportunity to make a financial donation in support of the international relief response in Nepal. In countries where Shell is facilitating staff donations, Shell will match the amount of money raised by staff and donate it to its global disaster relief partner, the International Federation for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies or locally selected humanitarian organisations.
Skipton Building Society
Skipton Building Society supports charities and aid relief as a result of natural disasters and realises that many of its customers may want to make a donation. In response to the devastation in Nepal caused by the earthquake, UBS will match donations from clients for relief efforts for up to a total of CHF 1 million. This is in addition to its long-standing matched giving program for UBS employees. UBS clients in Switzerland, Germany, the UK, Hong Kong and the U.S. can donate to the disaster relief program of UBS's independent grant-making foundation - the UBS Optimus Foundation - which will work together with renowned partners in the affected areas with a specific focus on meeting the needs of children. UBS will match client donations to the Foundation for up to a total of CHF 1 million. This unique approach, through a partnership with clients, is another demonstration of the firm's strong commitment to respond to critical needs swiftly and creatively.
Nepal is a priority country for the UBS Optimus Foundation and together with local partners, the Foundation commits to report to clients regularly on how their funds are spent and is committed to long-term engagement in the country. UBS, through its Community Affairs program will also match employee donations to selected disaster relief organizations providing aid throughout the region, as well as employee donations to the Optimus Foundation.
Veolia are mobilising to help the disaster relief efforts for Nepal. The Veolia Foundation is supporting the rescue operation mounted jointly by two NGOs Solidarités International and Médecins du Monde, in Nepal. The Foundation is providing water treatment and storage equipment that will leave for Kathmandu in a plane chartered by the emergency unit of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition Veoliaforce equipment and volunteers will be sent, to support the Red Cross missions, after the initial assessments have been made on the ground.
Walgreens Boots Alliance
Walgreens Boots Alliance is working with its existing charity partner, International Health Partners (IHP) to respond to the earthquake. IHP have already sent emergency medical kits, providing essential medicines to treat 10,000 adults and children, to field hospitals. Medical volunteers are working in the areas worst hit by the earthquake in Nepal, including the Gorkha district, close to the epicenter. A second consignment of 50 emergency medical kits, with 50,000 treatments, will be sent later this week. Walgreens Boots Alliance is also working to source specific medicines identified as priority needs by IHP.
