As a partner, he is a senior corporate lawyer with over 20 years of experience across private equity (PE), venture capital (VC) and mergers & acquisitions (M&A). James acts for corporate companies, management teams and institutional clients including private equity houses and venture capitalist firms on all sizes of transactions.
A significant amount of James’ practice covers domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, corporate reorganisations and joint ventures. He also has a strong track record in advising startups and early stage businesses, particularly assisting with fundraisings – in particular through his investor connections in the UK and US – and helping companies scale to the US. James has spent consideration time on the west coast of the US where he set up his previous firm’s San Francisco office.
James’ leadership of the technology sector nationally has seen the firm support industry events and organisations including Silicon Valley comes to the UK (SVC2UK), CENTI (China-Europe Networks of Technology and Innovation), Founders4Schools and the Digital Boost project. James is a member of the advisory board for Global Tech Advocates and Tech London Advocates. He also co-leads Shoosmiths’ Israel desk.
James joined Shoosmiths in 2019. He qualified at DLA Piper, then became a corporate partner at Berwin Leighton Paisner where he helped to lead their corporate finance and technology, media and telecoms (TMT) practice.
