AWE Community showcase event welcomes over 400 visitors

Over 400 residents from the local communities attended the AWE Showcase event at the Burghfield Community Sports Association held on Saturday 27th June.

The one day event saw visitors from Reading, Basingstoke, Newbury and the surrounding areas attend to find out more about defence company AWE’s unique work and history.  On hand were some of the organisation’s experts, there to speak about AWE's cutting edge science and technology programmes and educational initiatives with local schools and colleges.

AWE staff also demonstrated practical science and engineering experiments, as well as speakng about its local heritage and how it’s working hard to preserve local wildlife to make the community a safer and greener place in which to live. There were also demonstrations from the Ministry of Defence Police dogs, AWE Fire & Rescue and ambulance crew.

Haydn Clulow, AWE Site Director, commented “It was fantastic to see so many local residents, along with our employees and their families take a keen interest in AWE’s work.  The feedback from visitors has been really encouraging and I would like to thank everyone for attending. We are planning to hold community events like this in the near future".
