Ban the Box heads to Scotland for 5th anniversary

Just 17 of the 110 businesses signed up to Business in the Community's Ban the Box campaign have a presence in Scotland. This means many Scottish companies are missing out on an untapped pool of talent, while putting up barriers to people who seeking work in order to turn their lives around

Following an employer event at HMP Brixton in London on 16 October marking the start of the campaign's 5th anniversary, Ban the Box is at HMP Edinburgh today to look at how to remove those barriers.

In collaboration with Cyrenians and Release Scotland, Business in the Community is bringing 14 businesses into the prison to meet with prisoners and discuss pathways to employment for people with criminal convictions in Scotland.

Ban the Box campaign manager Jessica Rose said: "While Ban the Box is a national campaign, today's event is the first time BITC Scotland, local partners and our campaign team have collaborated to specifically bring the Ban the Box message to Scottish businesses. It is a chance to raise awareness of Ban the Box while getting businesses and community organisations together to break down barriers to employment and reduce reoffending."
