Community Leaders 'Pow Wow'

13 representatives from the public, private and voluntary sector in Southampton recently gathered at Ordnance Survey’s headquarters to take part in a facilitated Pow Wow, thanks to Business in the Community's Souithampton Hub.

The Pow Wow session provided a lively discussion amongst community leaders of some of the issues prevalent in Southampton. So many of the issues discussed will have a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of residents across the city

MD, Right Management Workplace Wellness
The Pow Wow session allowed individuals to discuss and debate the local problems which can provide a barrier in building healthy communities. The subjects covered in the session included, raising the aspirations of young people, long term unemployment and how best to utilise key city assets.

The GeoVation Pow Wow was organised as a result of work undertaken through the BITC Southampton Hub. The Hub which is led by Jayne Carrington, MD of Right Management Workplace Wellness, allows local businesses and partners to work collaboratively in addressing local social issues.  As a supporter of the Southampton Hub, Ordnance Survey offered the use of their GeoVation initiative to both shape a future challenge and share knowledge gained amongst the wider Business in the Community network.

Chris Parker , who heads the GeoVation programme added: ‘GeoVation is about helping communities address their unmet needs through the application of geographic data, skills and expertise. We are delighted that we have been able to apply this locally and it was great to see such a variety of local organisations represented’.

Following the Pow Wow, problems identified will be collated and fed into a report which will be presented to local partners and the wider Business in the Community network.
